My definition of happiness is defined as a state of “Being” in constant Love, Joy & Peace. Take note that I said “Being” and not “Feeling”. Feelings fluctuate depending on the situation, however “Being” represents a constant state that you are in regardless of the circumstance. Should something that we all desire to have, and we all are in constant search of be defined as a mere feeling or should it be defined as a state of “Being”? I think the fact that we constantly desire it and we all hunger for it is evidence that God wants us to have it and that it is attainable because, Everyone’s Bottom Line is Happiness.

Happiness Shouldn’t Fluctuate! I know you’re probably thinking, is this girl crazy, no one can be happy all the time.  Well, it depends on how you define happiness and what makes you happy.  Most people’s happiness is defined by the feeling they get when they attain something that they desire, my relationship is good so I’m happy, I just got a brand new car so I’m happy, I have x amount of dollars in the bank so I’m happy.  When one of these defining elements are not what we think they should be we are back unhappy, therefore it continually puts us on a emotional rollercoaster in search of that next thing that will give us that happy feeling again.

Happiness comes from the Lord, it does not come from your accomplishments, neither your attainments but it is birthed from walking in alignment with who He is and who He has called you to be.  The seed of happiness is planted when you find out why God created you, and it is birthed when you follow the plan and purpose that He has for you.  If you never take the time to  figure out your purpose for being created you will never be Happy, you will constantly have fluctuating emotions that are contingent on your circumstance.

Psalms 1:1-3

How happy is the one who does not

walk in the advice of the wicked
or stand in the pathway with sinners
or sit in the company of mockers!
Instead, his delight is in the Lord’s instruction,
and he meditates on it day and night.
He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams
that bears its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

This is the recipe to Happiness:

  • Don’t seek advice from the wrong people. How many times have we made major mistakes just by taking bad advice from the wrong people, or by making ungodly people our role models. God will connect you to the right people if you allow him to. Proverbs 13:20 GWT Whoever walks with wise people will be wise, but whoever associates with fools will suffer.
  • Don’t hang with the wrong people. Surround yourself with people with positive mindsets, motivated people who want the same things as yourself. The Bible ask us in Amos 3:3 Can two walk together unless they agree? In other words the only way for 2 people to walk together without conflict is that they must be in agreement with each other, whether good or bad.
  • Make God’s plan and purpose for your life, your plan and purpose for your life. Remember that his plan is bigger and better than any plan you may have for yourselves.  Consult him and find out what He desires of you. When he reveals it to you, become excellent at it by putting your complete all into it.
  • The person(s) who listens to this sound instruction will be happy. The person(s) who makes God’s plan for them, their plan will be like a tree planted next to a stream of water constantly being fed, constantly being nourished, getting healthier and stronger each passing day, until you produce God’s desired fruit in his timing.

Happiness comes when you become less concerned about personal happiness, and personal attainment and become focused on Christ and the plan and purpose that He has for you.  Happiness is not self-centered, it’s God-Centered.
